The way to do this is to think differently and creatively.
We do not live in ‘the’ real world. We live in ‘a’ real world that we have constructed with our patterns of thinking and perception.
This is actually liberating because it enables us to tear down the parts of our life that are not working and build it up again. We can wake up each day filled with energy and purpose with gratitude coursing through our veins and anchored in a deep sense of well-being that never leaves us.
The vast majority of our ‘problems’ are actually internal but we try to ‘solve’ them through external action. This effort is destined to fail. We can make our external actions much more effective by changing the mental models we use through which we perceive the world.
Examples will be given in the session to illustrate the points above.
Specifically you will learn about stress: the REAL reason you feel it, as the world you live in is a construct – you created it with your mental chatter and your mental models, supported by the following key learning outcomes:
Your take-away practical tool from this session: Three powerful techniques to banish stress from your life.

How to stop chasing future goals and start pivoting present stories.
Many early coaching models, particularly those with roots in sports psychology and performance improvement, had goals at their core. These models were based in a number of assumptions, including: goal achievement is a linear process and people know what they want at the beginning.
A Narrative Approach starts from a different set of assumptions, eg, increasing people’s non-judgmental awareness of their current state, stories and actions is the necessary foundation for any change; achieving what someone truly wants is often a circuitous process and people will seldom know what that is until they are in process.
We live in a time when our clients often overwhelmed by a sense that there is too much to do and too many sets of expectations. Few of us need more goals, and life/work hacks only go so far. In addition, many of the deepest desires we have (like happiness) are best attained tangentially. We need to start thinking about performance in narrative terms.
To do so, we will look at how to use the Narrative Design framework to help clients meet four core human needs without goals. As with a protagonists’ journey of discovery in a good movie, it is only after a number of false starts and tests that they realize what they were most authentically seeking or most developmentally needed.
In this session, we will explore how you can work without goals, including:
Are you willing to risk working without the goal safety net?

The book Reinventing Organizations’ has sparked huge interest in self-organisation beyond hierarchy. Of the many options available, how do we choose those which will work for our clients and their organisations? This session contextualises the shift beyond hierarchy and provides a map to help you make conscious choices to navigate this complex transition.
Our volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous 21st century requires new ways of organising and working together – how do we self-organise collaboratively beyond hierarchy?
But if we throw out the familiar structures of conventional hierarchy, can we just work things out as we go along? How do we avoid slipping into the ‘tyranny of structurelessness’ or being dominated by a shadow hierarchy behind what looks like a flat structure? Are there really viable alternatives to hierarchy?
Some of the alternatives include democratic hierarchy, flat structures such as co-operatives, newer systems such as Holacracy and a pick’n’mix approach where people choose the tools for self-organisation which best fit their own organisational culture and values from the many options available.
The Conscious Collaboration portfolio helps you understand the choices involved in the shift towards self-organisation and equips you with a set of tools and skills to make the transition.
This session locates the Conscious Collaboration approach in the wider context of conventional hierarchy and agile approaches to self-organisation such as Holacracy. These tools and skills of Conscious Collaboration are presented on a map of 6 areas of organisational life which need to be transformed in the shift away from hierarchy. These are Discovering Direction, Finding Fit, Creating Culture, Working with Power, Getting Things Done Together and Learning and Lasting.
The Conscious Collaboration partnership between Core Process Psychotherapist and Mindfulness practitioner Justine Corrie, with seasoned trainer, facilitator and consultant Nick Osborne, integrates the polarities of the inner and outer dimensions of group, teams and organisations. They use Mindfulness and awareness practices to work with individual and group shadow to foster awareness within and between us; and integrate this with group processes such as collaborative communication, facilitating meetings, making collective decisions and working with conflict to create a transformative alchemy of Conscious Collaboration.
Specifically you will learn the Conscious Collaboration approach which integrates personal/inner and group/outer dimensions using this map of 6 areas of organisational life which need to be transformed in the shift away from hierarchy: Discovering Direction, Finding Fit, Creating Culture, Working with Power, Getting Things Done Together and Learning and Lasting.

The Barefoot Leadership Initiative
As a corporate executive at a multi-national corporation based in rural India, I learned that working at a grassroots level fueled my evolution into a corporate leader and helped the company’s bottom-line and subsequent growth.
During my tenure in corporate leadership, I observed that organizations have the potential to transform societal values for positive change, but also frequently, the adverse. In the here and now, as a coach working on behavioural transformation at individual and group levels, from co-creative visioning to collaborative action, I have learned how this process can be efficiently structured.
Organizations can successfully work towards sustainable growth by use of coaching competencies to embed societal change within business goals that help initiate leadership development. In this session, I will take you through my personal experience creating the Barefoot Leadership Initiatives that promote societal transformation through the use of coaching competencies.
I will share with you processes that will help you discover the unconscious passion to serve (yes, we all do, just listen to Sir John Whitmore’s video), and strengths to support. The congruence of which, will enable you to identify opportunities and support systems to develop yourself, others and grow your organization – be it small, medium or large.
Our future lies in a co-created sustainable environment that we all own and inhabit. Let us collaborate and collectively discover how to make it happen. This session is neither inspirational nor motivational; it is meant to be both, with takeaways for practical utility.
Specifically you will learn how to build leadership competencies via coaching to initiate a grassroots movement toward social change that benefits both the coaching ecosystem, and society at large, and will walk away with these key learning outcomes:
In this session, we will present a leadership framework that coaches can use to help their executive clients achieve extraordinary outcome, both in team satisfaction and business results.
We will present our definition of leadership as a systemic vs. individual trait model that will give both coaches and leaders a formula they can use to apply the Leadership Alignment Cycle and Leading with Backbone and Heart.
We will explain the Leadership Alignment Cycle – it’s overall purpose, the rationale behind the sequence, and the purpose of each of the practices in the cycle, as well as how coaches can use the cycle with clients to diagnose execution problems, plan development interventions, and effectively coach clients.
We will present a model for Leadership Presence, (Leading With Backbone and Heart), how that model is crucial to the successful implementation of the leadership practices, why leaders need to face rather avoid the challenges of these practices, and how coaches can help leaders meet those challenges.
We will end with a Q&A session using examples to illustrate the model.
Specifically you will learn the Leadership Alignment Cycle, a sequence of leadership practices, each infused with the leadership presence of Leading with Backbone and Heart, supported by the following key learning outcomes:
Developmental Mentoring is about using the mentor’s wisdom to help the client to develop their own wisdom.
When coaches talk about mentoring, they often have in mind “sponsorship mentoring” – an approach derived in the United States and originally defined as “overseeing the career of a young man”.
In practice, most mentoring around the world is developmental mentoring, which requires all the skills of a skilled coach, plus additional competences such as being a proactive role model, and using the mentor’s knowledge of context (for example, networks and the politics of a company or profession) to craft powerful and empathetic questions specific to the client’s environment.
Effective mentors, like effective coaches, rarely give direct advice; but they do draw on their experience to help the mentee better understand themselves and the world around them.
The session will provide an overview of the skills of the professional mentor and how coaches can become comfortable incorporating mentoring skills into their portfolio.
Specifically you will learn how to incorporate mentoring tools and approaches into your coaching practice, supported by the following key learning outcomes:
Your take-away practical tool from this session: A brief paper giving an overview of mentor competencies.
Values provide the power to move.
Goals are cognitive, values provide the power to go from the present state to the desired state. Values are powered by our emotions, they give us reasons to act.

Our way of life today is generating very bad operating conditions for the brain’s prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for our performance – engagement, productivity, collaboration, creativity, emotional intelligence, and strategic thinking. We live in an age of technology distraction, or even addiction, chronic multitasking, and a surplus of negative emotions.
The new model, Organize Your Mind, includes a mind locator or a GPS for the mind, based on cutting-edge neuroscience. 14 brain states can be located on a two-dimensional map allowing coaches to move their minds and their clients’ minds through a variety of deep and effective brain states.
From right to left travels the level of executive control, the extent to which your left prefrontal cortex [PFC] is controlling & directing attention. In the middle are somewhat defocused and nonlinear creative brain states. On the right, your mind is wandering about without a leash. The second dimension goes from thinking down to sensory awareness or experiencing, which is regulated in the back and deeper brain regions.
Five strategies will be shared, to cultivate an organized mind in everyday life. The first strategy is to be intentional and choose the brain state that’s appropriate for the next task. A second strategy is to go deep and invest all of your brain’s resources in only one brain state at a time. The third strategy is agility, making a quick and complete jump from one brain state to another. The fourth strategy is diversity – regularly making use of a variety of brain states.
Purposeful use of the mind locator, brain states and strategies is an effective self-coaching and coaching tool, supporting an organized mind for coaches, their clients and populations.
Specifically you will learn The Organize Your Mind toolbox which includes a two-dimensional mind locator, 14 brain states to be used in daily life, and six strategies for organizing your mind.

Next Step Neuro-Coaching Practices Part 1
In this two part series of webinars, Srini Pillay, M.D., world renowned Harvard neuroscientist, psychiatrist, award-winning author and executive coach and Hendre Coetzee, Coach, Futurist and founder of the Center for Advanced Coaching will work with coaches to describe simple and practical tools that are coaches can use to help leaders rewire their brains specifically to optimize their leadership at uncertain times.
In this session, our presenters will explain:
• How fear and uncertainty impact the brain
• How recent research informs our understanding of how we can target the uncertain brain to help stabilize it
• How coaches can use this understanding and immediately integrate this research into “next” practices that enhance their coaching skills
You will learn simple and practical tools that coaches can use to help leaders rewire their brains specifically to optimize their leadership during uncertain times, supported by the following key learning outcomes:
Your take-away practical tool from this session: Two specific brain-based processes that coaches can use to invite leaders to change their internal contexts to match what is going on in the current business environment—specifically—how leaders can manage fear, stress, anxiety and an anticipatory sense of foreboding.
In this session, we will learn the essential leadership conversations that produce actions, coordination, and value, and how they can be coached.
We will also learn how external actions arise from our human internal states of commitment, care, and emotions, and how these are shared through skills of connection and blending.
Coaching leadership requires clarity about what constitutes leadership. Leadership is too often mistaken for other roles and skills, such as being an expert, a decision maker, an order giver, or having a title. These roles can be performed without being an effective leader. Leadership requires followers, and the coaching challenge is to enable our coaches who are leaders to produce more valuable futures with others.
Specifically you will learn that the Generative Leadership framework reveals how leadership impact is based on skilled conversational acts that create shared commitment and care for the coordination of action that produces satisfying results, supported by the following key learning outcomes:
Your take-away practical tool from this session: “The Generative Foundations of Action in Organizations” e-book in pdf format and an exercise with questions for coaches to assess the learning opportunity for a leader coaches.

How Team, Executive and Business Coaches Can Work with What’s Emerging
Would it surprise you to learn that organizations dream? And that teams dream together? It shouldn’t. You’ve undoubtedly participated in this group process.
Isn’t every job posting a hope, a wish, that someone will come and fill the role being advertised? And isn’t every marketing plan and sales projection a collective dream (if not delusion)? Each new product or service that didn’t exist the day before, but hits the market today was dreamt up by somebody (or somebodies). Brainstorming solutions is nothing more than day-dreaming out loud together.
“What might we do? How might we do it? What could happen if?” These are the words we use to manifest a shared vision.
And there are powerful tools that can also be employed in service of transmuting an idea into an object, act or construct. Leaders who know how to help their teams dream together yield a greater return on relationship.
Underneath each team or colleague conflict there lie the dream off unfulfilled expectation, small betrayals, ways in which “I ‘thought’ you did it or expected you’d do it…” So much of what makes up our daily existence is made up. The dreaming nature of relationship systems is undeniable.
Intelligent teams and leaders know how to leverage this dreaming nature consciously and intentionally. And you, as a coach can facilitate this emergence with your business, executive and team clients.
Specifically you will learn to “literally create a new reality” by dreaming through a powerful method of helping individuals, teams and organizations. You will walk away with these key learning outcomes:

This discussion will address one of a coach’s biggest fears. What is that fear?
It is the belief that WE, the coach, are not good enough to get clients to make progress…and we are not. In all honesty more times than not, our clients don’t even need our expertise, knowledge, or talent; they simply need our authentic and curious presence.
This pre-session will set up the full WBEC’s session titled the Jazz of Coaching 2.0 held in June, when we will again encourage coaches to stay open to the idea that coaching is often a lot more like Jazz than it is Orchestra.
We will introduce three new approaches to the coaching process. These approaches are successful when coaches intentionally lay the foundation of becoming less important in the process of client engagement.
Specifically you will learn to get yourself out of the way, supported by the following key learning outcomes:
Your take-away practical tool from this session: Asking yourself this question: “What am I doing that is preventing me from being authentic and curious when coaching others?”

The One Minute Manager, first published over three decades ago, was one of the most passed along books of all time. In rereading it, Ken Blanchard and his co-author Spencer Johnson realized that a lot had changed since the book’s original publication, so they recently released The New One Minute Manager.
Thirty years ago command-and-control leadership was a way of life. The assumption was that all the brains were in the manager’s office. The New One Minute Manager realizes that today the old top-down management style doesn’t work, as people want to be able to bring their brains to work. Now side by side leadership—being a partner with your people—is much more effective.
In short, the New One Minute Manager has refired—and so can you!
Specifically you will learn the three secrets of The New One Minute Manager—and how to apply them to refire your life!, supported by the following key learning outcomes:

Understanding the Neuroscience of Listening is a game-changer in your Coaching Practice.
The quality of our listening creates an energetic field, that ripples throughout an organization leading to either innovation and co-creation, or to silos and conflicts. Learn about human-field-magnets!
The Untrained Navigator
We hear one−seventh as fast as we think − about one unit of hearing to five units of thinking. Obviously, the mind has the opportunity and the time to construct questions, inferences, assumptions, and associations as we listen; but are we using this time wisely?
Traditionally, ineffective listening has been viewed as a hearing problem. However, as we gain important new information about the effects of this uniquely human process − called listening − on the effectiveness of an organization, we can recognize that ineffective listening is a management problem. Consider some of these common types of listening behaviors in business.
“Noise in the Attic” Listening
Like many people, some we’ve been taught to think that being a good listener is merely sitting silently while others talk. Outwardly, we appear to be listening. Inwardly, however, we are surrendering to a type of listening called Noise in the Attic.
“Face Value” Listening
Sometimes, we think we are hearing facts, when actually the words we’re hearing are interpretations of events they describe. In Face Value listening, the listener isn’t mentally “checking back” into the real world to see whether the words really explain what they purport to explain.
The business environment has its own unique listening problems. Employees, constantly alert for clues to their performance, are often victims of Position listening; this highly partial form of listening can be extremely harmful to good communications.
A framework that enables peoples to hold the space open for new ideas to emerge.

Although Dr. Marshall’s Goldsmith’s primary area of expertise is helping successful leaders achieve positive, lasting change in behavior, he also wants his clients to be happy and to have great lives.
For past 40 years, Marshall has been a student of Buddhist philosophy. He was also a member of the Peter Drucker Foundation Advisory Board for ten years – and had the opportunity to learn from the Founder of Modern Management.
In this engaging 20 minute session, he will combine learnings from Buddha and Peter Drucker with a focus on ‘Be Happy and Let Go of Guilt’. He will provide some simple, yet powerful, that you can use with your coaching clients. Marshall is frequently asked to teach programs for women in leadership. The final ten minutes of this session are the most popular part of his women’s leadership program. This material may well be something that you can use in your own teaching.
Although this session is aimed at making you an even better coach, Marshall’s hope is that you can apply these concepts in your own life as well. This program is intended only for participants who want to be happier and let go of guilt – and who want the same for their clients.
Specifically you will find these key insights:
Warning! Anyone who would rather be miserable or have more guilt should not participate!
