Re-inventing the Wheel: Coaching Beyond ‘Best Practice’

Session length: 45 minutes

2019-06-19T13:00:00-04:00 Wednesday, June 19th 13:00 EDT

So much time is spent in training and development on sharing ‘best practice’, ‘shortcuts to success’, and ‘life hacks’ that a basic truth often gets missed - our most impactful coaching sessions are invariably the ones where something brand new gets invented in the interaction between you and your client.

In this lighthearted and provocative session, you’ll get the chance to take a fresh look at some of the fundamental assumptions underpinning your coaching and get some gentle guidance on how to make the most of your in-the-moment-responsive-intelligence during your sessions.

Key Learning Takeaways

  1. Being fully present with another human being is the single most impactful thing we can do in any coaching session. The amount of planning we do for our sessions can either facilitate that presence or take us away from it.
  2. When we are fully present with our clients, we can rely on our (and their) real-time responsive intelligence to deliver exactly what’s needed in the perfect way for that specific client in that specific moment.
  3. Focusing on “the way” we are going to work with our clients leads to variable impact and outcomes; focusing on the impact we want to make (i.e. “the point”) allows a multiplicity of ways, models, and methodologies to be used.

Coaching from the Inside-Out: Understanding the Vertical Dimension in Transformative Coaching

Session length: 90 minutes

2019-09-19T17:00:00-04:00 Thursday, September 19th 17:00 EDT

Traditional coaching takes place primarily in a horizontal dimension – coaches assist their clients in getting from point A to point B. Yet lasting change nearly always happens in the vertical dimension – a deepening of the client’s ground of being and greater access to inspiration and inner wisdom. While this has generally led to an either/or approach to success and personal growth and a sharp division between therapy and coaching, transformative coaching (or, as I like to call it, ‘coaching from the inside-out’) uses the vertical dimension to facilitate change on the inside even as the client continues to move toward their goals on the outside.

Transformative coaching begins with the premise that people will automatically get more out of their lives when they gain more insight into how life works. Because when we really understand how something works, from a sliding door to a car to gravity, we don’t have to think about it anymore and can just get on with it. We walk in and out, drive, and fall to the ground with a sense of ease and simplicity.

In the same way, when we know who we are and where our experience comes from, we don’t have to overthink things. We can live our lives and follow our guidance knowing that when we’re up, we’re up when we’re down, we’re down, and love, peace, connection, and insight are available all the time, regardless of how we’re feeling.

In other words, if there’s something you want to create or do in the world, knowing how things actually get created and done is of universal benefit. All boats will rise with the tide of this deeper understanding.

Key Learning Takeaways

  1. A simple but profound explanation of how the mind works.
  2. A whole new way of thinking about goals, productivity, and decision making.
  3. How to dramatically increase your impact, taking your coaching from ‘extremely helpful’ to genuinely transformational.

Coaching from the Inside-Out: Coaching Demonstration with Q&A

Session length: 90 minutes

2019-09-26T17:00:00-04:00 Thursday, September 26th 17:00 EDT

During this live coaching demonstration, Michael Neil will bring on one of his clients and coach them live using his methodologies. Attendees will get the chance to see high-level coaching in action and observe directly how a leading coach can establish trust, listen with complete focus, deeply understand their clients’ needs, ask powerful questions and communicate effectively during a real-life coaching situation.

The first part of the call will be the speaker introducing the client and what methodologies and process they are going to use to coach them. During the second part, the live coaching demonstration will take place. The third part is a debrief of the demonstration for attendees to learn which tools and methodologies the coach used in which context and understand how to create similar results with their own clients, especially when it comes to their coaching presence, listening ability, the power of the questions asked as well as clarity and effectiveness in communication. The fourth and final part is a Q&A with the audience, helping them to integrate their learnings and gain additional clarity on how to implement their learnings with their own clients.

Key Learning Takeaways

  1. How caring presence can make more of an impact than methodology or technique, even with executive clients.
  2. The value of a clear point over a better way
  3. The power of universal truths vs. helpful beliefs
